Beautifully stated, Becca. I, too, carry many of the same weights as you do now -- and never thought of what I consider my "escape hatches" as counterweights. It's a wonderful way to think of it.
There are so many names and metaphors for these ways of coping. I have a friend who calls them “small harbors” which I love too. Escape hatches it a great one! When it all gets to be too much, I often think of that old commercial “Calgon, take me away!”
